As a dance school we are dedicated to doing all we can to support and promote the wellbeing of all the students that we train. Our aim is to make nutritional advice and information readily available to students and their families so they can make informed choices about their daily diet for themselves. Heather Smith, a qualified Nutrition Advisor and founder of Good Life Nutrition UK is working in partnership with Mad4Dance to create a service which can offer this – Mad4Nutrition.
“Part of the Mad4dance mission is to empower young people and provide them with the opportunity to grow and develop skills for life. As a parent of a Mad4dance student and in my work as a Nutrition Adviser in the community, I wanted to link up with Julie to add another element of power, the power of nutrition education for everyone. Nutrition advice and dietary information can be as informative and useful as it can be confusing and inaccurate. My role is to bust the myths so often fed to us on social media and to provide clear, science-based information to improve wellbeing of students and families.”

Mad4Nutrition will be a source of information through the library of videos we are planning and opportunity for ‘Nutrition Clinics’ at the Centre (when Covid-measures allow).
The first few videos will help students make informed choices about what to eat before and after a dance class or performance, how important hydration is and how to increase fruit and veg intake even for the most stubborn of broccoli-haters!
A uniform is very important because the way we dress and present ourselves plays an important role in preparing us with the correct attitude and mind set for a class. As dance students, correct clothing is also extremely important for safety and technical development reasons as well. In addition, a uniform brings a great sense of belonging and togetherness which is so important in a dance training environment. I want all Mad4Dance members to be proud of their dance achievements and to be proud of being part of Mad4Dance.

Helping Young Minds is a registered charity which was founded in 2020 and is based at the Mad4Dance centre for Dance and Wellbeing in Christchurch. The charity aims to help and support children and young people in the local area with their mental and emotional wellbeing through activities, guidance, information and support.
The charity was founded by its trustees, Julie Laming (Mad4Dance Principal) along with Emily Weaver and Nick Love who both carry extensive knowledge and experience of working within the charity sector from a fundraising and accountancy point of view. Beth Eames, an experienced therapist, is also soon to officially join the board of trustees and brings with her 25 years of experience of working with young people and families.
Mad4Dance school is working in partnership with Helping Young Minds to help raise funds and build awareness of the mental health issues affecting so many young people today.
“There are so many young people struggling with the pressures that come with being a teenager in today’s world and the stresses of dealing with all the changes and choices they have to make at this time of their life. It is so easy to forget how hard it is to be young and in today’s culture, it’s harder than ever. We need to do more as a community to empower our young people so that they can journey into adulthood with a deeper self-confidence, purpose and hope.” Julie Laming
The centre is home to Mad4Dance school and a base for the charity called Helping Young Minds. It is a safe and familiar space for children to learn, flourish and grow.
Our vision for this centre is to provide a place for dance, as well as othe activities and support to improve the wellbeing of children and young people in our local area.
We believe young people shouldn’t have to feel alone when battling with their mental health issues and we will fight against the stigma so often attached to it. We want to use this centre to help, support and develop children and young people and ensure they know they are not alone.
